Barn Door / May 29, 2018 / Angelique Lapresse
When gliding open portion of the door hangs towards the outside of the rooms wall looking like a piece of decoration in the room. And when closed it looks like a classy enclosure that one intends it to be. Flat Track Design As mentioned above this style has a track which is mounted over the doorway stretching along the length of the wall with a couple of track hangers which can be attached to the door knobs and revolve horizontally down the length of the track. The track is built of solid steel. Due to the physics involved this kind of setup provides the track with exceptional power. Solid Steel Construction The hanger track and practically every single part of the system are made of solid steel. This is important to the style strength and largely the durability of barn door hardware.
Most strap hinges are around 20" in length providing plenty of support for heavier barn doors. Pinnel hinges are one of the most cost effective strap hinges on the market. There are two main components of a pinnel hinge the strap portion that attached to the door frame and the pinnel portion that attaches to the jamb of the frame. The end of the pinnel has a pin on it that attaches to the strap portion on the door. This allows you to attach the components on the respective structures and then assemble the door to the frame. The strap portion of the pinnel hinge usually uses lag screws or bolts for assembly.
The doors in this type of application are smaller with varying widths and heights depending on the size of the window or television that is being covered. The type of use that is to be highlighted here is with glass doors. These are commonly found in bathrooms and are often lightly etched in part or whole to give them that classic "frosty" or "cloudy" white look. Frosted glass doors not only make for great shower doors but theyre also fantastic as bathroom entry doors. Because of the fragile nature of glass doors the movement hardware must be particularly gentle.
