When I started this blog, I didn’t own a camera and wasn’t trying to win a baking contest. I desperately needed a creative outlet. Luckily I was fortunate to not only have friends with mad photography skills, but friends who were more than willing to help a sister out with my vintage sugary shenanigans.
I’ve since bought a camera and now taking most of my own pics. And I still DON’T WANNA BAKE YOUR WEDDING CAKE. Exclamation point times affinity.
Last spring I entered a pic of this shortcake in the foodie photography contest hosted by our Museum of Photographic Arts (MOPA). I didn’t think I had a shot in hell. To everyone out there that took time out and voted for me; thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your continued support and love are what keep me going on this crazy journey. And trust me, when I beeline it to Target at O’dark thirty on a Sunday morning, because the Andy Warhol inspired cans of Campbell’s soup have just hit the shelves, AND give up a Labor Day to bake, frost, and re-shoot this chocolate cake for the tenth time? Coo Coo Chaos folks.
After seeing that Warhol cake, I don’t believe you wouldn’t win a baking contest. Love your recipes, your shots, and you. xo
And now I’m off to scavenge the grocery for soup cans.
Laura- Thank you soooooooooo much! XO times affinity.
Yum yum yummy! It’s funny because I so love the summer, and those strawberries remind me of the beginning of summer in Oregon, but this heat leads me to long for cooler fall days:) Will have to try that recipe though…
Michelle- Thank so much for stopping by! I hear you girl; I love summer like nobody’s business, but I am definitely ready for cooler months and fall. Look forward to seeing you soon and hopefull a fall canning party in the works.
Wonderful a wonderful.soup cans? Have to check that out. love you!
Sibyl- Mucho love to you too!! Thanks so much for stopping by.
I adore the picture of unbridled childhood laughter! There is a story there you will have to share with me some time. I have a sense I would have the same look of happiness on my face after consuming those delicious looking strawberry shortcakes. Yummy!
Kika- Thanks a million darling. I sure wish I could remember what had me in a roar of glee, quite possibly I was allowed to stay up way past my bedtime and given a big sugary dessert.
Your pictures are awesome! Makes me hungry haha!
Jess- Thanks a million doll!
Those pictures are so gorgeous…I feel like reaching through my screen and grabbing a piece! And is that you in the picture?? Totally adorable!
Snehal- You just made me ‘permagrin’.. Thanks so much honey. Yes, I was 8 years-old there and obviously loving life. Hope to see you soon.
Keep the photos, recipes and food contests coming – we love Vintage Sugarcube!!
Alexi- I soooooooo appreciate you my friend. xoxo
Thanks again for another great recipe and awesome pics. I love collecting your recipes and trying them out. Summer is coming to an end, but fall is a great time, too. Remember the great apples and pumpkins we had as kids in Ohio? I’m hoping you will surprise me with a pumpkin recipe this fall. Just saying…
Gary- Thank YOU sooo much! I miss Ohio in the fall. Nothing quite like it, the smell in the air is my favorite memory. I have definitely have a recipe coming up that’s gonna knock your socks off!!
Keep the pics & blogs coming my friend.
James- Thanks a million. Glad we connected through Aimee.
Oh, it’s funny you mention the smell in the Ohio air during fall–That’s the biggest thing I miss about it too. Every once in awhile here on the prairie, I’ll catch a whiff of some far-off farmer burning leaves & it takes me right back.
That, and decent apples. There’s just no comparison. Your blog is awesome, YOU are awesome, and I consider myself that much richer that I’ve connected with such a great blog friend. Keep on keepin’ on!
Rachel- I’m tearing up. Soooo happy we connected. We definitely have to meet on of these days, either in San Diego or on the prairie. And that burning leaf smell is the BEST!!!!!!!
Congrats! I have got to subscribe to your blog. I am missing so much (like those Warhol cans!!!!!!!)
