How has your summer been? Did you watch the opening ceremony of the Olympics? Though the US uniforms were snappy, I still prefer the Holy Mole-ness of 1968.
I hope your summer has been golden & filled with luscious nibbles. I recently made some easy-breazy pop-tarts filled with homemade strawberry-blackberry jam that will melt in your mouth, and make you feel like it’s the summer of 68′.
Here’s a few highlights of my summer. Tell me about yours.. Recipe here.

Seeing Santigold play at the Oceanside Pier was a goose-bump’n kind of great.

The best summer wedding; the bride wore red shoes & the tunes during dinner were the instrumental versions of the groom’s favorite heavy metal songs. Enough said.

Pop-Tart inspiration? Homemade strawberry-blackberry jam for all the guests, made by the bride.

Getting serenaded on Sunday mornings ain’t a bad way to end the summer weekends.

My dear friend Michelle hosted the best party. We canned an incredible tomatillo salsa from this book - Canning for a New Generation.

There’s a rush to scoring a gem at a summer Saturday yard sale.

Wishing everyone more summertime shenanigans. It ain’t fall yet.

I love this simple recipe for pop tarts!! The pictures are as fantastic as always.
Btw – I didn’t really care for the opening ceremony :-/
Snehal- Thanks darling. Hope you are having a great rest of your summer. We’ll have to get together for lunch again soon.
So much awesome in one post. That wedding sound like my dream wedding. If I were to ever get married.
I lived on pop-tarts as a kid… these look so much better than that packaged junk. Sprinkles make everything amazing, don’t they?
Laura- I could see you having a pretty rad wedding. And I couldn’t agree more; sprinkles do make everything better. Have a great rest of your summer. Stay cooool!
I love the sprinkles on the pop-tarts and a bride that makes her own jam favors is after my own heart (I did the same
Thanks Cindy! I bet your wedding was a thousand-kinds-of-cool..I can only imagine how wonderful.
These look awesome!!! And, SO easy!!! thanks for the recipe!!! Miss you!
Thanks Audrey.. I swear to you girl- easy & DEEELISH. Miss you. Give me a shout next time your in southern Cali!

Love this super easy retro treat. Seems very simple to make.
Miss Evelyne- Thanks so much! Girlll – you crack me up. Have a wonderful rest of your summer.
Your summer sounds (and looks!) like it’s going nicely — love the photos and those pop tarts. I still haven’t tried them worrying I’d not be able to resist several. I’ll wait ’till the kid returns to school and send him a care package…it’s a plan.
Thanks soo much Miss Kelly. I like your plan and I’m sure the young’n will too!
Loving these! Loving the colors and the ideas!
Thanks so much June!
Love the wedding favors. That is a fabulous idea! And I would die for some tomatillo home-canned salsa. Alas, our tomatillos are dying in this hellish heat.
The mod link to the 68 olympics as awesome. Loved the vintageness of the whole thing!
Debra- Thanks a million squared! Damn the heat eh? Ugg.. Wishing you cooler weather soooon. Thanks so much for stopping by.
Man…Those look SO yummy!! I love homemade pop-tarts!
Thanks Rachel.. Me too!
I see. The pie crust had me worried, but they’re baked instead of toasted. They should be good.
The opening ceremony was fantastic!
James- Maybe a toaster oven would do the trick too?? I loved the opening ceremony too. Especially the Queen.
Jenny! Visiting your blog is always such a happy thing! Love the pop tarts and with delicious homemade jam for filling? You could school the 60′s about ingredient quality (am sure the original boxed jobs were not so delish). The clothes; fab. Red shoes on a bride? Perfect (I eloped to Fiji and was wed in a native ceremony with native garb barefoot or I’d wear red shoes too). Love this whole post….and you of course!
Toni- Thank you sooo much. You ALWAYS brighten my day. I would LOVE to see your wedding pics some day. Maybe you could do a blog post sooooon? Maybe with a tropical fruit pie??
Another great idea! Can’t wait to try making these with my kiddos!
Joyce- Thanks so much. Just don’t forget the sprinkles..
So many memories after feasting my eyes on your photospread. Childhood in 1968, first Olympics I remember seeing. Dating that guy who played a Fender bass.
Loved the London opening ceremony and am up late every night. Good thing your poptarts are a simple treat! Will make them this weekend but with store-bought jam. Jenny, somehow I did not think you were the canning kind.
Suzanne- Thanks a million. I have a few skills I keep hidden.
Love the baked crust and the filling in the middle sounds even yummier! Reminds me of the cinnamon and sugar strips from years back!
You always post the best photos and what a cute idea for wedding favors!
Thanks Linda. Ohhh those cinn & sugar strips… They’d be great dipped in some of that homemade jam..
Look delicious and wishing the second half of your summer is as good as the first!!
Thanks so much Alexi.. Right back at ya!
YUM! Can’t go wrong with jam and pastry! Looking forward to trying these out. I think the kiddos will go bonkers!
Thanks Susan.. I think you are correctoooooo!
Wow, what a great idea and so fun. Looks like you have a terrific summer, hope it continues to sizzle for you…
Thanks Gary! Wishing you a wonderful rest of your summer too.
Love it! Love it! Love it! I’m beginning to think its just not normal to be as creative as you are,
Amy- That’s the biggest compliment ever.. love you my friend.
Great post! That salsa… mouthwatering, right?
Ohhh Miss Trish.. You have no idea. I think I’m going to hide the rest of it from my boyfriend. He’s loving it too.
You are so creative! These pop tarts are festive and fun!
