Recently I had the pleasure of joining some fabulous San Diego Food Bloggers (Marie, Darlene, Austin, Jane, Stacy and Dominica) on a food tour of Tijuana, Mexico. Our tour was hosted by the handsome Derrik of Turista Libre and the lovely, hip Kristin & Antonio from Life & Food.
Did you know that the Caesar salad was created by Caesar Cardini, an Italian immigrant working in Tijuana in the 1920s’? I didn’t photograph the torta I inhaled from Tortas Wash Mobile, because it was just too damn good not to gobble up. Since I really don’t have the words to describe how incredible everything smelled, felt and tasted, I’ll let the pictures tell you the story. Oh, and the recipe for the Caesar?? Wouldn’t you rather just come visit me in San Diego and we could head south for some shenanigans and salad?

I’m so glad you got to experience TJ I love going down there, such amazing food and places. Derrik and Turista Libre are great too, Daren and I have been on many adventures with them. You should check it out!
Xo
Jayme
Jayme- Thanks sooo much for stopping by! I can’t wait until my next Turista Libre adventure. Derrik mentioned they are planning another food tour. This time, I’m buying the 2.5 kilos of allowed queso! OLE!!
Hi Jenny
My “consugra” (mutual mother in law) lives in TJ and with us sooooo if you want anything from any of the markets just let me know!
Also, we watch a show together on PBS “Mexico One Plate at a Time” and make recipes off that show like tomatillo pizza and tarts!
I am back at Amylin occaisionally, so could bring it by!
Janet
Janet- How mucho-awesome that you have a wonderful consugra with a even more wonderful palate. YAY for being back at Amylin. Would love to meet up. Thanks a bunch for stopping by.

Amy- That’s fabulous. Will this be your first trip? Have loads of fun friend.
It has been many years since I lived in Tijuana for 2 years, but I still miss the food and ambiance. Thanks for bringing back so many fond memories of that special place. There used to be a little restaurant up in the hills near the golf course that was owned by a French chef and his Mexican wife. I had some really special Mex/French dishes there. Glad to see there are still some people that aren’t afraid of our neighboring sister city.
Gary- What great memories. And deeeeelicious memories too! You should go with Turiste Libre on the next foodie tour.
Looks like a blast and the food looks delish! Great photos too!
Myra- Thanks soooo much and thanks sooo much for stopping by. I know you are a super-busy gal right now.
