I was an ‘Agua Fresca de Melon’ virgin until a recent trip to a best kept secret in San Diego known as La Fachada.  That amazing drink inspired me to kick it up a notch with a little liquid courage and create this easy scrumptious concoction.  You really won’t need dessert after dinner.

  • 1 cantaloupe peeled, de-seeded, and chopped
  • 1 cup of warm water
  • 1/4 cup of sugar (white or brown)
  • Juice from 1 lime
  • 1/2 cup of Vodka

In a small bowl combine warm water and sugar and stir.  Add everything to a blender until well combined.  Shake with ice and pour into approximately 7 Martini glasses.

  • 2 Tbsp of Bourbon
  • 1 cup of cornflakes crushed
  • 16 small Sugar cookies

Soften Ice Cream in medium bowl at room temperature and stir in Bourbon.  Return to freezer for about 30 minutes.  Remove and spread between Sugar cookies and roll sides in crushed cornflakes.  Serve to your Eye Candy and you won’t be disappointed.

When I was in my 20s, I lived in a sketchy party of town with 5 roommates.  We hit raves, DJ sets, and OSU campus bars until 3am.  Then the debauchery really began.  A load of us would head to a condo complex in a swanky part of town, scale the fence, and hit the pool and hot tub in only our skivvies.  Everyone always ended up back at our house for breakfast and I was the chef.  So today I decided to reminisce and sneak “Cornflake & Bourbon Ice Cream Sammies” into my favorite library.  Would I change anything about my 20s?  Not a chance!  Except maybe to have made these Sammies back then for breakfast.

Ginormous thanks to Phil Defalco for putting up with all my shenanigans. Reworked Vintage Naughty Librarian dress from Hunt & Gather.  Spanking Glasses?  Luigi Vera.

Baked goods are better with some green cooked in.  A few bites and you feel luscious and giddy.  The music is sounding better, your Eye Candy is looking cuter and all of a sudden your sandwich is like the best sandwich you’ve ever tasted!!  Sound familiar?  Well I can’t guarantee this bread will do all that, but I can guarantee you’ll have stronger, sexier muscles in no time.  So eat up sailor! Popeye would be so proud.  Recipe here!

The necklace that Olive Oyl would have fought me for?  Northpark Craft Mafia.  And the photos?  Only by Phil, Defalco Photography.

Recipe adapted from the Lazarus department store cookbook.
  • 2 cups fresh spinach (no stems)
  • 1/2 medium size naval orange
  • 3 extra-large-eggs
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

Wash spinach.  Drain well.  Cut into 1/4-inch pieces (I used a food processor). Grind orange (peel and pulp) in food processor.

Beat eggs in mixing bowl.  Add oil and sugar.  Mix well.  Add prepared spinach and orange to this mixture and blend lightly.

Sift together dry ingredients, add these to the liquid ingredients and lightly blend together.

Pour into 2 greased loaf pans and bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes or until knife comes out clean when inserted into the center of the loaf.
