When I think of poppy seeds, I think of the Wizard of Oz. When I think of the Emerald City, I think of the Hotel Del in Coronado. The hotel opened in 1888 and L. Frank Baum, began wintering and writing there in 1904. Rumor has he based his designs for the Emerald City on the hotel. What I do know for sure, is this cake would have made him scream, “Lions, and Tigers, and Bears, OH MY.” What to do with the leftover Limon Rum? It makes one hell of a pitcher of Blackberry Mojitos. Ask me nicely, and I’ll invite you over for some.
P.S. Photos by Rich Pencek, mad scientist by day, bad-ass photographer by night. Nail polish in Dick Weed by Bleach Black, sold at Need Supply Co. Though I think I would have called the polish, “The Milk Weed”.

Hey VSC,
You weren’t wearing the Classic B-52 wig at the Padre game tonight!
Would have loved to have seen that do!
Great game, eh?
Awesome photos and great recipe. Nice recommendation on the rum too! (Can I get an invite when you make them again? Pretty please?)
Nice looking cake! I didn’t know that about Baum and the Hotel Del. I do love that place though, not least because it was where they filmed Some Like it Hot and it also was where Somewhere in Time (the book not the movie) was set. It definitely has a magical quality about it, like you could walk around a corner and step back in time.
Yummmm, this cake looks luscious, loved the shoes too.
